15th Greg E 138 laps
With reference to the above Lap Totals, a very good run by Richard to Equal Troy, but apparently Disqualified, due to Illegal Tyres.
NB: Info' received, Richard's Tyres, were Too Narrow

Also, Great to see Kenny having another 'Run' and doing well in GT-1's AND to finally see Our good Mate and 'Enduring Marshal' :) Greg Erskine Also having a 'run' in GT-1's !!,.. :),.. (Just need to get him 'fixed-up' with a Retro Chassis Now !!,.. :) :)

Good turn out, and good racing by the looks of it.

Congrats to Troy, Darryl, Casey and Kenny for the podiums.

Not sure Steve,.. am waiting on clarification from Ron.

The 'Note' in the initial email from him simply said;
"Richard ran but gets no points because of cut down tires"

So guess they Must have been too small in Diameter ??

NB: Having reviewed the Race Sheets, I screwed up the 'Positions', as such Regarding Richards 2nd place (In the Race), so have Amended the report :)

OK, that appears to apply only to GT1, and not Aussie Retro Can Am.

Photo's 'posted' and Info' regarding Richard's tyres :)

I must admit I am somewhat intrigued by Richard's 'situation' regarding the 'Width' of his Tyres.

I seem to recall the Very Hard Low Profile Tyres & Big Hubs Many of us were running in GT-1's at "Raceworld", were Also Not AS Wide as the Standard (out of the Tube) JK's seemingly regarded as 'Normal' AND Legal for GT-1's !!

Perhaps Richard had Mounted New Donut's on a set of those Older Hubs !!?? and perhaps also obviously, (judging from his times and totals), they were Not a Disadvantage !!,.. LOL

Admittedly, the GT-1 racing at "Raceworld", was NOT part of the SRC as such, but could be simply a Misunderstanding of the Current SRC Rule requirements by himself ??

Hey Stoo,

From what i was told/overheard, these were 'trimmed' down ( so a narrower tyre ). Richard had also admitted as such, whilst im sure he didn't like the ruling he agreed to race on the proviso it was for no points/position.

Cheers

Benno

Hey Ben,.. Thanks, Understood. :)

Was obviously Not there and am Not in any way trying to 'Defend' His choices or actions as such,.. lol
Just wondering whether it was an unintentional 'oversight',.. but obviously 'Cutting-Down' a 'set' of Rims IS perhaps Hard to in any way describe as an 'Unintentional' error !!,..

Cheers

They where the only tires in my box.
Full hud give you more grip they're Alpha hards cut down for wing racing so i was giving away grip to the other racers.
Was a great night with mates thats the main thing

"They where the only tires in my box" Ha Ha Ha,.. Well, there you go :)

Like I suggested, they were Obviously Not a Disadvantage !! :)

"Giving away Grip to the other racers" :o   ;) Really !!?? Alpha Hards !! AND Cut Down !!
Mate the car Must have been Stonkering around !!,.. One can Only Imagine what may have been possible With FULL Grip !!??,.. :D

Perhaps a somewhat 'dubious' rule to be honest !?,.. (understand about it being an Even Playing Field etc,.. well, In theory at least), I mean who knows what Everyone else IS running afterall anyway.

For my Money, IS a 'Tuning Thing' really :)

A pretty 'Impressive' performance No matter what Richard !!,.. :)

Might be good idea for SSME to have some tires available at the raceway could eliminate this problem

I don't see the problem with cut down tires can someone tell me where im getting advantage if anyone know can they answer my question we maybe should look at changing the rules

And to answer your sarcastic response
Stoo23 yes only tires in my box

??? Wha' ???

Definitely NOT 'Sarcastic' Richard !!,.. I Can fully understand the situation :)
Like I wrote, if you were running 'Hard' and cut down tyres, then your performance on the night was (as suggested), pretty damn Impressive !!

Personally, until this 'DQ' happened, I was Not even aware that one had to run Full Width tyres/rims etc !!
I have No idea Why there is a Rule regarding Tyre Width in the GT-1 Rules.

As suggested, in My view it is and can be a very effective method of Car Tuning, depending on conditions 'On the Night'

Less Wide tyres, can allow the rear to Slide a bit more, or Reduce Grip (if there appears to be too much), and compensate for the way the car may be Handling in Grippy conditions. It arguably also has Less Rolling Resistance (Grip), in a straight line) and may be Faster in the Straights (and perhaps overall), depending on 'condition' of the track etc.

Years ago, racing Grp 15 Wing cars at Garry J's King at Penrith and elsewhere, it was Not uncommon to run Very Narrow rear tyres, often as Narrow as 10 to 12mm !! It allowed one to use slightly Heavier 'Goo' and Not 'Bog' the car down as much and 'Load-Up' the Motor and also be Very Fast in the straight etc.
Depending on conditions have even run narrower tyres on my 27's, back in the day of 'Goo' to provide similar advantages Motor heat and handling-wise as with the grp 15's.

Hi guys, I was scruteneer on the night to help out Ron,and the tire width thing thing is something I would not have picked up on,,,,not really into the GT1 scene,,,,but it was pointed out by another racer that these cut downs were not permitted at Hornsby, but are ok nationally.I asked Ron to make the call as track rep, but he said for me to make the call. Considering the SRC is a two track race event, it did not seem right to have two different rules standards as such, within the SRC events,,,,, so after explaining to Richard , and he just wanted to race regardless ,,,[ all credit to him with his great attitude } the decision was made,,,,if wrong,, blame me,, probably should have tried to find some spare rubber for him,,,but didn't. Richard is made of the right stuff,,,go very fast and just have fun,,well done!

Also on the matter of going fast are the times that BEN punched out of my loaner to him, with the GT1,,,,FASTEST times on four of the six lanes,,,on a car that he had no practice with,,,as he was a late entry,,,,,,well done Ben !!!!! and Brooksy would have gone a lot faster if I hadn't have loaned him a shitter [ an old champion chassis ] ,,,,sorry about that Jason
see you all at the next race Darryl
