Big Day Out #1 16 Apr 2023

Post by Mark Fox »

Hi All,

The first of the years' BIG DAY OUT was held on Sunday 16 Apr and was a great load of fun for the 5 racers that showed up.

We kicked off with some practice to the aroma of onions, sausages and bacon being cooked by Toni on the BBQ - Yum Yum.

I was super excited as I had a new car to try out - it was not a competitor on the day as it was (as far as I know), the First Brushless slot car to be completely designed for that type of engine (rather than grafting the motor to an existing chassis) in Australia.

All I can say after limited testing and straight of the building block is WOW - HOLY MOLEY - it went like stink recording 3.4's. I had previously tried one of these motors in my Retro Pro chassis but it was way over powered for the amount of aerodynamics on this format and so decided to build a new car from scratch.

Here it is : -

Okay back to the racing.

Retro CanAm

David Fitz led all the way with everybody else just trying to hang on for dear life - new laps record by one lap over Darryls' old mark - just check out the times he cut with his Akitani chassis!!!!

F1

Wow this was a very exiting race with broken cars on the floor and all sorts of mayhem.

Luckily for me (and some others) The Big Day Out is about fun and so ample time-out for repairs was granted which I needed in the first bracket after an almighty pile up which saw me (my car actually) buried into the wall and a steel pylon - new axle and wheels with a good straighten up of the bracket saw me back in action after a lot of swearing :|. Darryl retired after a similar accident saw his car DNF whilst the car he had loaned Casey went better after the centre section solder joint gave way and it was taped up - go figure!

A pretty fun but exasperating race which I ended up winning somehow with taped-up Casey nudging out David followed by Ando and DNF Darryl.
