Wing Racing at Hornsby

Post by lindsayb »

Ivan spoke to me about club racing at Hornsby - potentially monthly or bi monthly on saturday nights.

I would preffer a G7 based race to a 27.

I am happy to run, but dont want to run in a smash up derby. There are 2 things I would like to change and putting this out there for comment.

Ist change, spray glue.

2nd change - like others, I find the track eats motor magnets, I am very reluctant to run 18 mag setups there and quickly running out of setups with less.

On that note, I have spoken to Paul at Alpha and he will do a deal on the old Alpha thor (singles) magents, bascially $10 US a set + shipping and GST. Now these magnets are 360 high, which means they will have good coverage so they should be a lot less suseptable to being damaged. My thoughts are, rather than having a OMO, we would allow 2 motors.

So change 2 would be single alpha thor magnets, available through James at Waitara and max 2 motors per race.

If there is any interest, I will organise 20 sets of magnets to be available.

Any thoughts, comments, other proposals - NOTE this is just for club racing - not a new national class.

HI Lindsay,

Just read your proposal. I think very sensible, the main thing is it keeps costs down and is still very-very fast.

Sure you have to buy new magnets but in the long run it will be cheaper as there will be minimal damage and they are cheap anyway. Running singles should prevent armature damage from fractured magnets too.

Will try the spray goo as well, this will keep track cleaning time down as well at the end of a late night.

I can see some advantages in the 2 motor rule as an alternative to OMO too. Your rule proposals have a good chance of getting some new racers in too due to the reduced motor cost/compelxity

I vote yes.

Lindsay,

Good ideas for a low cost club racing class, might be just the shot in the arm that wing car racing needs.

With the cheap cost of airfares these days you just might have a visitor from Melbourne.

Might I also suggest limiting the number of track calls!!!!

um, coming from an average to under average racer these days:
motor changing: I used to be able to change a motor (strap) in a bracket change.
Now it takes me a bracket change, all of the next bracket and some of the next bracket change!
Would time calls be an idea for novice racers at club level?
Petrol is for cleaning parts
Alcohol is for drinking
Nitro is for racing
Slotcars are for going VERY quick!

chadly ,,, generaly speaking its a OMO race . I think the idea is to allow a motor change just in case a racer does blow a motor, but it can be done on one motor.
